Coffee and Croissants

I have a problem.  I'm a sucker for a really good cup of coffee and a flaky breakfast pastry.  And that is how I spent my mornings this past weekend.

So much yum in one little picture.  A chocolate croissants from Blue Dog Bakery and a Almond Cappuccino made by Sean!

I love the pastries at Blue Dog Bakery.  It does not make it any easier that the bakery is just a few blocks down the street from my home.  I told my husband that if he wanted, I would get pastries for our breakfast this weekend.  Well, of course he wanted that, so up early Saturday morning in the snow I made my way there.  I came home with a blueberry muffin for him, an apple turnover for me, two chocolate croissants, and two cappuccinos.  He had his muffin, I had my turnover, and we saved the croissants for Sunday morning breakfast.

The best parts about these breakfasts were not the delicious pastries (although they are pretty fantastic), but the coffee.  I love coffee.  Cappuccino, latte, drip, pressed, however it's made does not matter.  Coffee done right is a pretty fantastic thing.  While I bought cappuccinos from Blue Dog Bakery on Saturday morning, Sunday morning, Sean made cappuccinos at home.  For some reason, I think coffee always tastes better when he makes it.

I must admit, when first asked if I would ever use an espresso machine, I sort of turned my nose up at it.  No, I said, I would not use it enough.  I was wrong.  Sean bought me one for Christmas four years ago, and we used it near daily until finally it kicked the bucket right before our wedding.  Sean, who has over the years become a coffee snob, did much research, and took some of our wedding money to purchase a Breville Smart Coffee Grinder (a burr grinder) and a Classic Gaggia Espresso machine.  While the espresso machine has made some of the best coffee I have ever had, I attribute the delicious coffee to the our wonderful grinder.  No matter the brand or roast of bean, if it is drip, press, or espresso, the coffee is amazing.  Sipping coffee and watching the news (or cartoons or Netflix) each morning with Sean is always fun.  We love trying new recipes for coffee, and I hope to share those here as we perfect them.
